Room service has been making a comeback in the post pandemic hotel operation. Once a neglected afterthought has taken centerstage as the restaurants have closed.

In this interview with Mr. Dhiman Majumdar – Vice President Operations of Mayfair group of hotels, we explore what is the group is doing to improve revenue during the pandemic from Room service.

What is the future outlook for room service in Mayfair hotels?

Looking at the current scenario of Covid-19, many state governments have put restrictions on dining in the F&B outlets (restaurants) or have restricted the dining options with 50% capacity.

Even the resident guests look forward to a safe dining experience & they prefer in-room dining options. we have developed a tailor-made SOP for the in-room dining operation where the health and wellbeing of both, our guests and serving associates are kept on high priority.

We have focused on almost contactless service along with a more elaborate menu. Our menu has now wide options of healthy intake and dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients


Do you see a room service menu given the same importance as a specialty restaurant menu?

Yes of course! Post Covid scenario, significant number of guests prefer to dine in the room itself & they look forward to experience different cuisines every day.

They also prefer to celebrate occasions with their loved ones away from the crowd for safety reasons. Realizing the need, we at Mayfair are now incorporating packages with culinary activities as part of the in-room dining experience.

Setting live Barbeque trolley or live Sushi station at the open terrace or balcony in some of our rooms and cottages is a great hit.

QR-coded menu option is now most preferred by the guests.

What are some of the offers you have in your resorts for room service?

Yes, in order to encourage guests and to create memories, we have few interesting offers for the in house guests.

  • Chef’s special immunity boosting menu.
  • Guest can curate her or his own menu a day prior and our chef will wow them for sure.
  • Travel friendly menu for takeaways.
  • Local dessert along with very special traditional souvenir beautifully packed in gift boxes which the guests can buy and gift their friends & loved ones.

Some hotels have started in-suite dining offers. Do you have any such offer?

As of now, this facility is only for resident guests occupying suites & we are not offering in-suite dining services to non-resident guests to maintain Covid specific protocols but will surely consider once the situation improves.
